Photos from June 6th-11th

WELCOMING POLE, NEWCASTLE ISLAND, BC
"The beaver building its dam and the sighting of the whale were signs of the fish coming. The whale would also come to take the elder spirit with them. The beaver also taught our people how to paddle."

WELCOMING POLE, NEWCASTLE ISLAND, BC
"Eagle's soaring over Jack's Point near Nanaimo Harbor and the presence of the bear along the river were signs that the fish were coming to feed the people."

MORNING CALM BEFORE LEAVING NEWCASTLE ISLAND JUNE 6TH

HARWOOD POINT, SHELTER POINT REGIONAL PARK, TEXADA ISLAND
Gale force winds, 35+ knots, kept me here an extra day. This is an example of a dumping wave beach. The surf can swamp your boat if you don't exit quickly when you land.

POWELL RIVER, BC JUNE 11TH.
Winds subside; looking out over Malaspina Strait toward Desolation Sound - the next adventure.
